Synthesit, iron supplement, is expected to strengthen the body and to increase performance. Synthesit only recently appeared in Japan. Maiko Ohta is one of the first athletes to take it. What does she expect?
Maiko Ohta is an official representative of the triathlon team called “Lapulem”. She was born in 1985, Chiba city, Chiba. Her career in triathlon already began during her student years in college. She ranked 8th at the Japanese championship and successfully completed the U-23 world championship. Parallel to race participation she enjoys teaching other triathletes. Moreover, Maiko took second place at the Miyakojima championship and she joined KONA championships in 2022 and 2023, which she both also successfully completed.
During the interview Maiko Ohta confirmed “she is not anemic”. But here is her phenomenal explanation as to why she chooses to take Synthesit iron supplement regularly.
“When I run and my feet land on the ground very heavily during the triathlon. There is a large impact on the body and the knees and also the red blood cells are continually broken. Oftentimes athletes become anemic because of that. This can lead to lower performance. This said, it is important to take iron. I believe in the study results that Synthesit iron citrate increases physical performance.”
Maiko Ohta is one of the first athletes to take Synthesit iron supplement prior to others in Japan. She says:
“I’m not anemic, but it has been 20 years since I started this sport. I still want to challenge my body and try new things and I want to achieve my goals. I am ready to achieve great performances at KONA. As a means of preparation I have been taking Synthesit iron supplement since fall 2023.”
She doesn’t have any bad conditions in her body, but Maiko monitors her body parameters through objective data analysis with regular blood checks and changes in her body. She states, she “expects to raise her performance at the end of her season with the help of Synthesit the iron supplement. I started training in winter and my condition stayed good until spring. Whereas usually I sometimes get injured in summer time. And for that reason in the past I was not able to do my best at the KONA tournament. I did health checks in September 2023, the time I started taking Synthesit iron, and in January my blood analysis showed normal and satisfying levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit*. Plus my overall performance has improved in comparison to previous seasons, which is already an improved result. This season I aim to participate in KONA successfully and in September to join the IM Japan tournament. Right now, I am taking Synthesit iron regularly in order to achieve the best results and to have the best condition for the races.”
*Hematocrit — it’s the percentage rate of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in red blood cells and hematocrit, which indicates the proportion of red blood cells in the blood.
According to a study published in the famous Swiss scientific journal “Frontiers in Nutrition'' long-term iron supplementation combined with vitamin B6 enhances maximal oxygen uptake and promotes skeletal muscle-specific mitochondrial biogenesis in rats.2
Although the study was conducted on animals, people and athletes have been regularly taking Synthesit for years and can confirm its effectiveness also on the human body. It’s easily available in the form of a capsule. It is recommended to take one capsule a day. Maiko concludes:
“I usually take 1 capsule a day and sometimes even 3 capsules a day. I often take it in the morning and 1 hour before workout.”
The patients who have been taking Synthesit since 2019 note it helps them maintain normal blood pressure, and in some cases, reduce the dose or completely withdraw from conventional hypotensive drugs. All the changes in medication regimen were under the supervision of attending physicians. This is related to the key features of high blood pressure such as damaged arteries and the restriction of blood flow to the heart and other organs and tissues of the body.
